I cook the cabbage at the cease. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I employ 1/2 cooking liquid from the meat and i/ii craven goop with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until just crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely season, it stays greenish and doesn't go all mushy.

This recipe is very practiced as written and is very piece of cake to make. I always like to read the reviews and make the recipe the original mode and then again and tweek to reviews equally needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The just frustrating thing is when people change the whole recipe. They should send in their own. Tracey did not fifty-fifty comment on this recipe,(not certain if she tried it) put hers in the reviews and said her family unit will just eat hers. That is great but I experience information technology is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please ship in slight changes to help us, practise non rewrite. Thank you lot

Absolutely delicious. I started out by cooking this on the stove acme as the recipe states (for virtually 45 minutes) but due to a family emergency, I had to get out the house. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. By the time I got abode, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, and so 7 hours in crock pot for an almost 3 lb. roast). I took the advice of some other reviewers and added 1/2 stick of butter to the liquid every bit the meat cooked and I also used beef broth instead of water. The next day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat dorsum into the liquid just to warm it. It was SOOOOOO good!! I will definitely make this over again!!

Fantastic! I have always kind of "winged" it with corned beefiness and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a bottle of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is information technology! From now on, no more than winging it! For spices, I used the packet seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled red potatoes, onion slices, babe carrots and of course cabbage wedges.

this is my offset fourth dimension making corned beef and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought information technology was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beefiness was three.75 lbs that came forth with the spice packet, instead of water i used beefiness broth, added 6 large cloves of garlic, 1 large white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, 10 small red potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of sense of taste ... all in a crockpot -- it took me 8 hours to cook this dinner and it was worth every minute of it.

I did not have to cook this recipe, this is the same equally my grandpa always fabricated it. To the people out the writing reviews calculation beef goop and what not . . THIS IS Not Beefiness STEW! It IS NOT SUPPOSED TO TASTE Similar IT. If you change the recipe and so you are making something else. This is exactly how you make Irish corned beef and cabbage. If you change it, then you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth time using this recipe and it is simple and yummy. The minor changes I do is cut up the potatoes and use modest carrots that I don't have to cut or pare. I don't empathise why the virtually helpful review on here does not follow this recipe at ALL! Please mail service your own recipe and let people review it. I find it NOT helpful to me when reading reviews. If you lot add Beef broth, brown sugar, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I tin can sympathize one or two changes simply all that is something different then Corned beef and cabbage.

Thanks over again for a wonderful recipe but thanks also to all who write these cracking reviews. It is and so nice to read what cooks think of the dish they make. Yesterday I made this Corned Beefiness & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian wife that it was the all-time yet. WOW! What is funny to me almost Allrecipes.com is that at present whenever I come with a new dish, friends or family unit volition say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me past now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that at that place were no spice packets in the pkg. and so I only did my own affair…4 garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, 2 bay leaves, pepper, dry mustard & the but change I made was adding canteen of beer. When the beef was washed I put it in a dish, covered with foil. So cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite done. When they were done I put them in a dish with goop, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was ready to serve. Sliced my cooled downwardly beef, put in a xiii X 9 dish covered with foil put in oven till ready to serve. I did make the Horseradish sauce and it was very skillful every bit well, but I institute that it was cold adjacent to the nice hot corned beef. I'm sticking to Greyness Poupon….Likewise a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Also helps with whatsoever problem that may occur after!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…neat recipe. Thanks Laria and thank you all with the great reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick's D

Best Corned Beef and Cabbage Ever!! I didn't alter a matter and it turned out perfect!! Super elementary recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The but thing I'd exercise differently next time is skim the top once it boils the first time and then add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (tin't truly charge per unit it otherwise can you?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of course, depending on the the kind of pot you lot use (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electrical, element of group vii...) or oven (regular, convection...), but the times given in the original recipe are a very expert approximate - just call back that tenderness is what you aim for. My simply improver was a generous swirl of sugariness butter in the strained broth earlier serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Viii thumbs up (in that location were four of u.s.a.)!

This is the way information technology'south done. Nosotros always told my mother to brand extra veggie'due south considering we knew what was coming the next solar day and that was the all-time part. The adjacent mean solar day was cold sliced corned beef and my female parent'due south vegetable fry. She would chop upwardly all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry up in a well seasoned iron skillet.. what she used equally base, butter I think, she would let cook until it got crispy, then plough and do again. To this day, I tin can not duplicate but go along trying. Endeavor information technology you lot volition love information technology. A medley of flavour..

I've been doing it this mode for over 30 years. In the final half hour I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put information technology in a roaster and cover it with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and identify covered in the oven with just a pocket-sized amt of juice in the bottom. The brown sugar will melt and create a wonderful coat for the corned beef. While the beef is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and then I'll also add a layer of dumplings to the top subsequently the veges begin to eddy. Luv it and so much that I do it more than than merely Patty'southward Day

The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. There's plenty of ways to gear up this meat, but if you want simple and delicious only follow along and you won't be disappointed. I am usually a recipe "modder" I seem to always be adjusting quantities and adding things. However lately I have been just trying recipes as they are written to notice out how the author likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, but wow it just was great! Thanks alot!

Groovy recipe. added tracey hint: I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'due south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smoothen. ane/iii cup of brown sugar,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 volition practise it. Hope you like information technology, all of my friends who detest corned beef will but eat mine!

Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'every bit is' - but I'd similar to speak to those of you who are aggravated about people changing upwardly the recipe and then rating it, since 'changing information technology up' really doesn't give you an accurate review of the recipe equally written. I have this to offering: Some of us utilise what'southward on-hand rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I find this very helpful on occasion because 1) you might not have to go shopping if yous use the substitutes or ii) you tin can acquire a different way to apply a spice or other ingredient - which only makes you a ameliorate melt. As well - I've found a few recipe reviewers who accept taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'modify ups' tin be invaluable and save time when yous don't have to scour the Cyberspace trying to find a way to omit a certain ingredient but still get the full event of the dish. I, too, am sometimes frustrated with the review system - but if you try to understand where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you tin can make a 'just okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... only past the mere fact that people take the fourth dimension to review dishes, even if they do modify them a bit, shows they care enough to share their information with you lot. Happy cooking!

I add together one more step (delicious) after you remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the top with regular prepared mustard and and then add together a thin layer of light brown suger on meridian of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about thirty min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this iv times in March. I do believe that information technology is the best Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I have a very good Irish friend of 75 yrs old and she told me it was the best she ever had...and preceded to tell it to the owners of a 100 twelvemonth old Irish cafeteria and store. I cooked it in only guiness beer and beef broth. Added peppercorns, bay leaf and onions. When the meat was tender I removed information technology from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brown mustard and brown sugar glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. And then I strained the goop, then added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a split skillet, braising it in the broth with butter until cooked only nevertheless crispy. Made a Horseradish sauce of 3/4 sour cream, 1/4 horseradish, 1 tlbs dried chives and the juice of 1/2 lemon. This recipe will impress anyone y'all serve it to.
08/10/2008
Good recipe. The corned beef is really great when served topped with a horseradish dressing. 1/two cup mayo, 1/ii loving cup sourcream and horseradish to taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I have plant i thing that takes information technology to the meridian. Later on the corned beef is washed cooking I remove it from the pot or crock pot and pinnacle information technology with a coat of mustard and brown saccharide. Yous tin can mix it to your liking. I make a lot and allow it drip down all the sides. I and then put information technology in the oven until it is heated through and the brown sugar is dissolved. Then slice and enjoy.
03/14/2012
I agree with others...skip the crock pot...the old fashioned way works best. I like to cook the corned beef, remove from water and wrap in aluminum foil to keep hot. Then I strain the water to get out the peppercorns and re-employ to cook potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way yous don't bite into a large peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/twenty/2007
As per some of the suggestions, I used 2 cans of beer & ii cans of beef broth instead of water and cooked it for vii hours in the crockpot. I also added 3 cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should have given the potatoes and carrots ninety minutes. I merely allowed for thirty and dinner was quite late. Even my husband liked information technology who swore he hates corned beefiness and has never liked cabbage - but he ate information technology all!
03/11/2012
this was fabulous, first I boiled the corned beef on top of stove in water, i guinness, one bay leafage, the spice bundle, and one shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the advice of another review which said to glaze the corned beef for the terminal xl minutes with the ane/iii cup chocolate-brown saccharide, 2tbsp melted butter, one tbsp prepared mustard, i/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake forty minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beef across the grain. Serve with soda bread. It is soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
03/02/2005
Just a notation that may help in cooking this meal, Add some Caraway seeds when yous add the cabbage. It will help to go rid of the gas that you will probably get from eating the cabbage.
09/15/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick'southward Day.. or any other time of the year when yous can't stand to accept it simply in one case! ***UPDATE: I made this again this year and information technology was absolutely delicious, but with these alterations: I used 1 can of Guiness, beef broth, and a water to boil the meat. In add-on to the spice package, I added two-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole black peppercorns, and 3 bayleaves. The cabbage took about xx minutes to cook even when I turned upward the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I like the cabbage. I used most an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) one lb. bag of baby carrots and 12 baby red potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they absorb a lot of the salt and you lot can cease up with a really salty roast. Anyway, this recipe is a great starting point, but with additions it can exist awesome... and information technology was! Everybody gobbled information technology up on St. Patty'south. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very expert! The simply change I made was to add three large cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned by a member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. one/three loving cup of dark-brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/three loving cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, and then cascade over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to xl mins. at 350 will do it. Hope you like it, all of my friends who detest corned beef volition only consume mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beef like this from at present on!
02/05/2013
Expert, bones and functional - what I'd call a reference recipe. I did mine in the boring cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with plenty water to embrace. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, just more than instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'm Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my GO TO recipe for corned beefiness and cabbage. I only gave it 3 stars, so why is information technology my Go To?? I gave it three stars based on how it tastes as-is. It's my Go To because it keeps the recipe unproblematic. Here's the thing - you don't have to do anything fancy to make amazing, over-the-peak corned beef and cabbage. People recollect it needs to be complicated. It doesn't!! The Only thing I added and it makes a HUGE departure - 1/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never volition again.
05/04/2009
this is the best corned beef and cabbage i accept always tasted an perpared, subed beef goop for h2o and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt stop eating.THANKS? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I inverse a million things. By the time it was finished, information technology was an entirely different meal. Loved it!
03/xiii/2011
I just fabricated this recipe this evening. I didn't alter a single thing! IT WAS Awesome!!!
06/05/2013
Cutting off the big fat then cover the corn beefiness with beef broth Add together peppercorns, bay leafage and onions to spice packet. Earlier calculation the spice packet, you kickoff bring the meat to a eddy and skim the foamy stuff off the top of the water.. melt meat @ fifty min. per lb Take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, Add some Caraway seeds when yous add the cabbage. Coat for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until polish. 1/3 loving cup of brown sugar,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smoothen, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. thirty to 40 mins. at 350 will exercise it.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to end this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking time? Thanks
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared it right past the recipe. My family unit of five gobbled up a 2.7 pound corned beef brisket in no time. There wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to melt this again even before nosotros were done eating. Will definately cook again!
03/xi/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, and so they were on the fence, yet for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all day. I used a 6qt on high. My pot was really total so the cabbage I placed in 1 ane/2 hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo skilful. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo easy to divide for slices. Will make this again for married man and I.
09/08/2008
This is the same recipe my grandma taught me but to save fourth dimension, I put everything in the crock pot.
11/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this once again. However, I would change a couple of things. Outset, if the corned beef y'all buy has an excessive corporeality of fat on the underside every bit many of them do, trim the fatty. Also, do as one reviewer suggested, add beef broth instaed of water. I as well added an onion. Loved this easy to brand recipe. Try it.
03/14/2009
I fabricated this one last week and it was actually good. I rinsed off the beef when I took it out of the packet, then proceeded as directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cut in one-half instead of the red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots about 30 minutes earlier adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked just right.
03/xviii/2009
I wait all yr for this repast just I had never fabricated it myself until this twelvemonth. A friend gave me the communication to pull the beef out of the pot when you put the veggies in, sprinkle brown saccharide on top and broil information technology at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are done. It was So good! Delight try this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and it was fantastic. Hubby wants more!
03/14/2009
I don't even like corned beefiness and cabbage and this was a hit! For the almost part, I stuck to the recipe. Simply added one bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a dash of celery salt. I did not include the potatoes with the meat because we were having another white potato sidedish, but I think they would've been good cooked in the pot. I cooked a iii 1/4lb. piece of meat for nearly four hours and it shredded beautifully. Great recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, easy dish! made this a few times. I apply a VERY big pot. I added one can of light beer, and near 2 cups of apple tree juice. Then filled the residue with water to cover meat. 45mins before brisket should be done, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins before everything is done, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/10/2006
OH MY! So much for following the recipe. While my beefiness was simmering in 8 cups of water for 2.v hrs, I took a siesta. The water all evaporated and the beef burned. Time to start again. A glass of vino for me, or perchance ii, a fresh brisket, and one-half again as much water.
06/16/2008
I have been making this for years. I as well add a bottle of beer. I also use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Red pepper and bong pepper. I tin eat this for days. I don't trim the fatty. The fat is 1 of my favorite parts. This is one of the very few recipes I make that I am not fat conscious about. This and steaks. I can eat this soup for days 6 times a twenty-four hours!
03/17/2011
This is the classic grooming. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into large chunks and steam information technology separately until tender. Add as much butter as your diet volition allow :) and season with salt and pepper. When the corned beefiness is fully cooked, remove it and put it in a baking dish. Mix mustard and brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on top of the corned beef. Put the meat under the broiler until it bubbles and crisps. By cooking the cabbage separately and adding the brown sugar paste you'll enjoy more variety of flavors and you'll get a niggling crisis for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my commencement fourth dimension making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I will be making this again! I used the cherry-red flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both red and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in gustation), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beef did not come w/ a spice packet, but when the meal is consummate, the gustation is even so to dice for. I added a footling common salt and pepper and a scrap of garlic, only there is really no need to.
03/19/2004
I'm a rookie when it comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a complete meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's day, my married woman was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beef and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were easy to follow and the finished product was outstanding! I too made corn bread (my first effort at blistering staff of life). I used chicken goop instead of but water equally some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were really good likewise!! I was really surprised how delecious the repast plow out and so was my wife!!
10/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers suggest calculation beef broth, peppercorns, etc., merely I call back this comfort food is best fabricated simply, just like expert 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you decide not to employ them, look the broth to be pretty salty since the potatoes absorb a skilful amount of table salt during the cooking procedure. Also, for those with kids, mash the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add together a little butter, and they'll probably love it! Mine did (age 6 and 7).
03/fourteen/2011
used 4.7lb beef, two heads cabbage, 7 med yellow taters . Cooked beef 3hr20min,added taters melt 1 hr, added cabbage . cooked thirty-35min till cabbabe tender but crispy ! great !!!
10/xi/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef broth instead of h2o (as others suggested), classic cb&c, we dear it! My picky daughter ate left over chicken with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if you want to add a chip more color and maybe a hint more than sweetness to this recipe, effort red cabbage with the dark-green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Adding a shop bought spice mix and adding it to water is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Simply perfect! Fifty-fifty hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy so I wasn't sure about the cabbage just he went dorsum for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is so tasty it's to die for! Y'all don't need Whatever other seasoning other than the little packet that comes with the beef, not even table salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for you. Don't be scared about how your cabbage will taste! Another little tip - Add together SOME ONIONS. I love onions and it makes everything that much better!! :) My family devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't melt again.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe as it is, but I found making two minor modifications makes information technology even better (at to the lowest degree in my family's stance). Kickoff, add a half-cup or so of cooking sherry to the pot earlier starting. Second, replace the cabbage with ane-1.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a nice twist on an quondam favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabled! Similar a some other reviewer, I had always winged it when information technology came to corned beefiness & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beefiness tender and starting to fall apart - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft but non soggy. From here on out, this will be THE recipe to utilise!
03/15/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used i tin of beer and 3 big cloves garlic pressed through my garlic press (and so enough water to cover beefiness and calculation the spices from the packet) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I also cut my potatoes because they were fairly large red potatoes and that worked well. Not bad Great Great Recipe!!!!
03/eleven/2011
I prepared this just like the directions and my family just loved information technology!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the full lack of onions. Ane onion, white or yellow, medium small per person.
03/15/2011
Actually, real Irish gaelic don't even eat this. It's an American Irish immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was about the cheapest bachelor. the poorer they were, the less that went into it. They likewise didn't accept the nice piddling spice parcel either. Anyway, add the carrots, garlic, and if y'all feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. eddy with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never made corned beef earlier because I did non similar it as a child, but my married man is Irish and actually missed information technology. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved it! Now my kids asking information technology all the time. The best part about information technology is that the cabbage just cooks through, and then it is not mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh flavor and is very easy to make.
03/12/2009
We did not care for this at all! The veggies were non washed enough & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I think it needs to be cooked all day.
03/15/2010
I made this Lord's day, it was to die for. My husband simply loved the beef, said it was the best he has ever eaten. Thanks
01/01/2013
Perfect and easy! I tried corned beef last year in a pressure level cooker, it tasted nix similar this. This is easy. I fabricated it exact to instructions with a 3 lb corned beefiness. Fifty-fifty my family unit liked the carrots, and no one in my family likes cooked carrots. Nosotros but voted to have this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of simply new years twenty-four hour period and St. Patrick's solar day.
04/04/2011
made as written. It was good. The second fourth dimension I added a little cherry-red wine and water, 3 bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, 2 stalks celery,3 carrots,1/ii onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage final hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
05/12/2009
This is the first time my corned beefiness came out great. Thank you for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an fantabulous recipe! The only other thing I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a little small, and then it was a tight fit, but I made it work. Succulent carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beef. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a not bad recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beef goop was a proficient suggestion, all the same the meat that I used could have cooked a little longer and the cabbage was a piffling under done, probably 25 min would exist amend than xv. But overall it was very tasty and the whole family unit loved it!
03/fourteen/2007
We melt this recipe every yr at our St. Patty'south Twenty-four hours party (sans the potatoes, add together more cabbage), and our party grows every year due to give-and-take of oral fissure about the corned beef. Final year we hosted over 100 people and went through 6 large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Cracking recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since nosotros like a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and e'er comes out perfect. I do put my carrots in with the meat cooking procedure since my family likes softer carrots and I add the potatos and cabbage together so you lot become no tough cabbage in the stop. Thanks for the recipe!
03/xiv/2015
I have tried many recipes similar this and they are all good. I'm directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Leave information technology lone, everyone knows information technology is not an Irish gaelic dish Information technology is a wonderful one pot meal Stay positive and enjoy. Have a wonderful family day enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011
do non add more cookin' for xtra briskets...50 min. per lb..

"What'southward more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beef and cabbage?" The answer is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is not a traditional Irish gaelic dish. Born and bred in Ireland, I was in my 50'due south when I spent some time in the United states of america and was told that everyone eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy'southward Day. I had never heard of it and I still take never tasted it. When I came home from that trip I did ask around, in instance I somehow had missed this vital role of Irish tradition, merely, no, I accept notwithstanding to come beyond any Irish national who has actually eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, considering of their new-found affluence. At home, in Ireland, it was simply the very wealthy who could afford to eat beef. And so, eating corned beefiness on Paddy'south Mean solar day is really an American-Irish gaelic-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added 10 pepper corns, three cloves of garlic, 1 bay leafage. I cooked a four pound trimmed cut for three hours and then moved it to the oven with Tracey's (her review is highly rated) sauce while I cooked the veggies. The best corn beef I have ever had. My family mowed through it. This should non be reserved for St Pats day. This is a world class meal....

Good template for a superb archetype dish. I highly recommend using a tin can or two low-sodium beefiness broth instead of water, which actually enhances season without oversalting the recipe. If y'all're a garlichead like me attempt tossing in 5 or 6 cloves when you start the meat, and mash them into the stock after they cook to tender.

Start of all, let me land I am not a corned beef fan. I decided to embrace my 12.5 % Irish claret in me on a whim this morning and make something in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market place in search of a 3 lb corned beef and some soda bread...got Guinness as an impulse item to cosign the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave up two of the bottles for the pot. I warned my husband of about 25 years that if we didn't like the meat, there were plenty of veggies to sustain united states. All I tin can say is I can no longer say I'yard not a corned beef fan...though then far I only like my ain recipe (run into how quickly something I larn becomes my own--it'due south a Greek thing)! I added one whole onion, 3 cloves of garlic (I love garlic and adjacent fourth dimension I'll add more than), 1 TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not big into potatoes, just the family is, and potatoes are just so Irish. Simmered 3 hours, so added potatoes for fifteen min, and so the carrots for another xv and and then cabbage for the last 15. I heated up purchased Irish Soda Bread while the cabbage simmered. I served the repast on a large platter with the meat confronting one side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on one side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage between, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. We enjoyed this very much. I had no red potatoes, so I used 6 medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the bottom of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did not fit in my crock, so I laid it on top of the meat. I filled information technology halfway with h2o, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let information technology melt. As the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage down a bit. I cooked it on loftier for 5 hours or so and everything was great. Loved it. I don't think it needed the beefiness bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my first time making corned beefiness, and I will definitely exist making it once more! The process is so easy, if somewhat lengthy, only the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning packet included in the package with the meat, and as well took the recommended advice of using beef broth equally the cooking liquid. When it was done cooking, I found the meat to be besides salty, and so I took the communication of some other user and fabricated a elementary glaze out of brownish sugar, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, and so put the beef in a minor baking pan and baked it at 350 for half an hour while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a picayune skeptical, but the result was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

I prepare this dish quite often as my family loves it! I just add together, during the last ane/2 hour, the potatoes and carrots around the beef then place cabbage wedges on acme of everything to steam, encompass and end cooking. Also, to serve Do please try a generous amount of French'due south Mustard on the sliced corn beef and butter on the veggies ...it's simply heavenly!

Information technology got my half-dozen year onetime daughter to swallow cabbage. My wife and two year old son are not too keen on corned beef, just the child and I honey corned beef (especially cold leftovers). This recipe was simple and perfect. I oasis't added cabbage since my daughter was born, just I idea I would give it a shot. I did add onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, just on the whole it would have been easy and delicious regardless. I also cut up the red potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min before adding the cabbage, then boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, and then returned the rested beefiness to the pot for another ten-15 min on simmer. Anyway yous practise it, it's like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious. Will add mushrooms next fourth dimension, I think. If y'all cut your potatoes don't overcook. I too serve with Southern way cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did cook my brisket in water and the veggies turned out just a bit bland. Adjacent time I will endeavour using beefiness broth as suggested past other reviewers. All in all a skilful recipe that I volition use once again.
